{"id":1316,"date":"2016-05-13T09:48:18","date_gmt":"2016-05-13T15:48:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/journeyinstitute.org\/?p=1316"},"modified":"2017-01-27T10:04:42","modified_gmt":"2017-01-27T17:04:42","slug":"a-better-question","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devjourneyinstitute.com\/ji\/index.php\/2016\/05\/13\/a-better-question\/","title":{"rendered":"A Better Question"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently read an article on a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/qz.com\/584874\/you-probably-know-to-ask-yourself-what-do-i-want-heres-a-way-better-question\/\">Westin Hotel website<\/a><\/span> titled &#8220;Ask The Hard Questions&#8221; which, of course, immediately got my attention being that Questions are my life&#8217;s work. \u00a0The article was originally posted by Mark Manson from his blog and titled &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/markmanson.net\/question\">The Most Important Question of Your Life<\/a><\/span>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a very intriguing post and Mark makes some excellent points, namely that asking &#8220;<em>What do you want out of life&#8221;<\/em> is the wrong question to ask. \u00a0His point is that what we want often isn&#8217;t enough for us to get it.<\/p>\n<p>He goes on to point out correctly that wanting something or fantasizing about something or dreaming about something isn&#8217;t going to get you what you want.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge I have with this post is that he focuses on the &#8220;pain&#8221; of getting what you want. \u00a0At one point he \u00a0suggests that in order to be successful you must be willing and able to sustain pain.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not that he&#8217;s wrong in his point, I just believe there are better ways to focus on it. \u00a0Happiness, success, love, whatever the goal, these things don&#8217;t just happen. \u00a0They take work, they take effort and time and sometimes yes, that effort and time can be painful. \u00a0But it&#8217;s not about enjoying the pain, it&#8217;s finding the end goal that you are willing to struggle for, to work for, to endure challenges for.<\/p>\n<p>You cannot succeed if you focus on the pain and as Mark points out you cannot succeed if all you do is &#8216;want&#8217;. \u00a0You have to be willing to do the work. \u00a0So the question, I believe, is not so much about what pain are you willing and able to sustain, but what Dream are you willing and able to do the work to achieve.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, it&#8217;s a great reminder that what we want is possible, as long as it&#8217;s what we truly want.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently read an article on a Westin Hotel website titled &#8220;Ask The Hard Questions&#8221; which, of course, immediately got my attention being that Questions are my life&#8217;s work. \u00a0The article was originally posted by Mark Manson from his blog and titled &#8220;The Most Important Question of Your Life&#8220;.
